Hardcase: A hardcase is often a plastic or aluminum case. These cases are very sturdy and provide maximum protection. They often have locks installed. They are however, heavier.
Softcase: A softcase is usually a nylon bag lined with foam. Often, these cases have multiple compartments and pouches in which you can put magazines and other materials. They protect slightly less than a hardcase, but are often much lighter.
